Polled gene test of GeneControl GmbH accepted

GeneControl invented a test for testing polled cattle of every breed. Due to its particular importance for cattle breeding, a validation for the most important breeds of cattle was carried out by the Association of South German cattle breeding and insemination organizations eV (ASR), the Federal Association of German beef cattle breeders and keepers Association (BDF) and the German Holstein Association (DHV).
The validation results of 180 anonymized samples with known Horn status (PP, Pp, PS, pp) led to no variation in results and therefore to a plausible status of Horn genotype, so that the genetic test can be considered suitable for all breeds. The price of the test is 27 €.
In March 2012, the assembly of the German Holstein Association (Deutscher Holstein Verband e.V. – DHV) has accepted the polled gene test of GeneControl GmbH.
Existing genetic tests remain valid only if they have the genetic test results of a security of at least 95%.

German Holstein Show

Grand Champion 330 1a Krista Stormatic Cording Seeger Gbrwindlooper Holsteins Grossenkneten Weu

On June 9, after two years, the German Holstein Show 2011 traditionally took place in Oldenburg. More than 220 Holsteins and Red Holsteins from Germany, Austria and Luxembourg, faced up to the decisions of the judges Matthias Zens (Musweiler) and Markus Gerber (Switzerland). Both judges and more than 4,000 attendances confirmed the markedly high quality level at the national show. The captivating program as well included a very informative progeny showcase with 9 daughter groups on display. On Thursday the sensation was perfect, when the judges nominated, after 2009 for the second time, the Stormatic daughter Krista of Jörg Seeger and Windlooper Holsteins as Grand Champion. In the history of the German Holstein Show, never before the same cow has been nominated twice as Grand Champion.

DHV Chairman Geuecke

DHV-Vorstand 2011

DHV Executive Board in 2011 with new cast

On 22 March 2011 the Annual General Assembly of the German Holstein Association (DHV) was held in Barleben/ Saxony-Anhalt. At his own request, President Helmut Knell, Alsfeld, retired after 15 years of dedicated and successful work for DHV. The General Assembly paid tribute to Mr Knell, who was elected the first President of DHV at the beginning of 1996. Under his presidency a number of groundbreaking decisions and important decisions were taken. These include among many others already in 1997 the introduction of the first Total Merit Index for the German Holstein Breed, the recruitment of a head classifier at DHV or the foundation of the EuroGenomic group.

George
Geuecke (43), Attendorn, was elected as the new President. Already in 2008, Mr Geuecke was elected as DHV board member. He became vice president in 2010. Mr Geuecke, member of the board of Rinder-Union West eG, is running a family farm with 115 ha grass and crop land. He is managing a dairy herd of 60 cows and produces 2,800 fattening pigs per year. Over the last 20 years Mr Geuecke judged about 40 regional shows as well as nearly all state shows in Germany. In addition to the German National Holstein show 2003 and 2005 and several international shows, he also judged the Red Holstein contest at the All-European Championship 2004 in Brussels. Mr Geuecke has participated in several DHV judging workshops and since 2005, he is a member of the national judging panel. Since Germany is one of the leading Holstein countries we should focus on the requirements of our members as well as on the cooperation with our national and international partners. A stronger collaboration on European level is big challenge which we have to face in future, Geuecke says. He is aiming to further strengthen the position of DHV in Germany and abroad.

The General Assembly elected Heinrich Ruprecht, Stöckse, as vice president. Jörg Stubbemann, Delmenhorst, chairman of Weser-Ems-Union, was elected as a new Board member of DHV.
